Due to much demand for a suitable product, DIY Roofing Ltd have introduced their ShedCover System for covering sheds, free standing garages, ad hoc uses and applications.

Generally such structures are exempt from Building Control regulations if they are existing structures and are being refurbished or if they are new and greater than 6m away from the boundary.
However, regulations may change or vary, also interpretations may vary from district to district, and other regulations (for example “siting requirements” may apply) so it is advisable to seek advice before proceeding.

NOTE:- It remains the customer’s responsibility to ensure the product is deemed fit for use in their particular application.

Shedcover is 1.2mm thick EPDM 6 metres wide and is sold by the running metre (up to 30m long)”. The product is a roofing specification EPDM synthetic rubber material, is extremely durable and very similar if not identical in performance to DIY Roofing’s other EPDM rubbers.
However as it has yet to undergo formal independent testing and because such testing is very expensive, this is not yet reflected in the cost.  ShedCover is ideal for free standing out-houses, sheds, garages etc. where Building Control is exempt as stated above.

ShedCover can be simply mechanically retained with trims or battens
(Or the ShedCover can be retained using a special screw and 50mm diameter load spreading plate system or similar.
[If this plate system is used the plates may need covering by the membrane depending on building configuration]).

ShedCover can be bonded by Water Based Decking Adhesive.

ShedCover can be joined by the cost effective ShedCover “Hot Melt” Joining System ~

  1. Clean mating surfaces [100 mm wide] (if necessary rough up surface to enhance the key effect  and adhere a “cleaning” tape to surface, roll down hard and strip off ~ masking tape may be suitable but it must not leave any residue.
  2. Position 100mm wide Joining Tape (supplied by DIY Roofing Ltd) between mating surfaces.
  3. Align mating rubber surfaces with 1 mm of tape exposed at the upper edge.
  4. Apply hot iron to the top of the “sandwich” at 130oC (most domestic electric irons can achieve this on maximum settling in non-steam mode) until joining tape has fully melted before moving on by lifting and repositioning, not sliding. (Some local distortion may occur initially but the rubber recovers when equilibrium is established).
Do not disturb mating surfaces until joining tape solidifies again.
Check for “fishmouths” and re-seal if present, but avoid repeated re-heatings.
  5. Seal edges with EPDM sealant mastic (using masking tape to effect a neat edge if required).

This new very economical method of joining was developed by DIY Roofing Ltd and ongoing tests and independent experts predictions confirm it as most effective.

For a faster joining method use the Impact Bonding Adhesive System.

At upstands it is necessary to hold the rubber into the corner (as with the ONE PIECE System) with a 300 mm wide band of impact bonding adhesive or mechanically fix it.
